MeteVision Song Contest 15, often referred to as MSC#15, was the fifteenth edition of MeteVision Song Contest, held in Paris, France. The edition started the 27th July 2020, and ended the 23rd August 2020.

20 countries participated in this edition, with Algeria, Croatia, Cyprus, Israel, Malta, Monaco Slovenia and Ukraine withdrawing from the contest, and Macedonia and Syria returning to the competition. Joan Thiele from San Marino won the contest with the song "Armenia" receiving a total of 89 points, 0 points ahead the runner-up, Turkey. Macedonia finishing in third place with 89 points. The host country, France achieved an 16th place with 39 points. The last place was for Lebanon, that got 16 points.

Organisation[]

Once France won the festival, the organisation had to decide where would the festival be in its fifteenth edition. Some cities presented their applications and the organisation had to decide which one was the best. The MBU confirmed the 27th July that Paris would host MSC#15. At that meeting, MBU also said the theme of this edition, WakeUP, relating it with the fact that the contest is taking place among the COVID19 circumstances, and the need of starting a new life again.

The host channel, France Télévisions, decided to have well-known and young presenters. They believed that they could be famous people, so they thought in choosing Caroline Ithurbide and Louise Bourgoin to present MSC#15.

AccorHotels Arena[]

The AccorHotels Arena (originally known as Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy and formerly known as Bercy Arena) is an indoor sports arena and concert hall, that is located on boulevard de Bercy, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, France. The closest métro station is Bercy. Designed by the architectural firm Andrault-Parat, Jean Prouvé and Guvan, the arena has a pyramidal shape, and walls covered with a sloping lawn. It has a seating capacity ranging from 7,000 to 20,300, depending on the event.

It has been used as the main venue for the Paris Masters ATP Tour tennis tournament, and for many sports events, such as: handball, basketball, boxing, gymnastics, track cycling, show jumping, and more. POPB hosted the European gymnastics championship in 2000, the 1991 and 1996 FIBA EuroLeague Final Fours, and the FIBA EuroBasket championship in 1999, among others. It also hosted the 2009–10 EuroLeague Final Four. It also hosted the Masters Karting Paris Bercy star race, from 1993 to 2001, and again in 2011. It is also serving as a host, along with Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany of the 2017 IIHF World Championship. On 28 June, it was announced that the arena would host the 2017 European League of Legends Championship Series Summer Finals.

As part of the 2014–15 renovations efforts, the arena was renamed to Bercy Arena on 1 January 2015. It was again renamed to AccorHotels Arena in October 2015. AccorHotels Arena will be a venue for 2024 Summer Olympics.

ParisMAP
Location of Paris in France

Paris is the capital and most populous city of France, with an administrative-limits area of 105 square kilometres (41 square miles) and a 2015 population of 2,229,621. The city is a commune and department, and the capital-heart of the 12,012-square-kilometre (4,638-square-mile) Île-de-France region (colloquially known as the 'Paris Region'), whose 2016 population of 12,142,802 represents roughly 18 percent of the population of France. Since the 17th century, Paris has been one of Europe's major centres of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts. The Paris Region had a GDP of €649.6 billion (US $763.4 billion) in 2014, accounting for 30.4 percent of the GDP of France. According to official estimates, in 2013-14 the Paris Region had the third-highest GDP in the world and the largest regional GDP in the EU.

The City of Paris' administrative limits form a horizontal oval centred on its historical-heart Île de la Cité island; this island is near the peak of an arc of Seine river that divides the city into southern Rive Gauche (Left Bank) and northern Rive Droite regions. Paris is but the core of a built-up area that extends well beyond its limits: commonly referred to as the agglomération Parisienne, and statistically as a unité urbaine (a measure of urban area), the Paris agglomeration's 2013 population of 10,601,122 makes it the largest urban area in the European Union. City-influenced commuter activity reaches well beyond even this in a statistical aire urbaine de Paris (a measure of metropolitan area), that had a 2013 population of 12,405,426, a number one-fifth the population of France, and one that makes it, after London, the second largest metropolitan area in the European Union. The 2016 Metropole of Grand Paris initiative, encompassing the City of Paris and its surrounding petite couronne department communes, or area covering 814 square kilometres and representing a population of 7 million, aims to improve city-suburb cooperation through a unique governing body.

Paris has a typical Western European oceanic climate which is affected by the North Atlantic Current. The overall climate throughout the year is mild and moderately wet. Summer days are usually warm and pleasant with average temperatures between 15 and 25 °C. Longer periods of more intense heat sometimes occur. Spring and autumn have, on average, mild days and fresh nights but are changing and unstable. In winter, sunshine is scarce; days are cool, nights cold but generally above freezing with low temperatures around 3 °C. Light night frosts are however quite common, but the temperature will dip below −5 °C for only a few days a year. Snow falls every year, but rarely stays on the ground. The city sometimes sees light snow or flurries with or without accumulation.
